They seem sound like they would be a great choice, but these fast foods are filled with fat, calories, and sodium.
When we are trying to get healthy, we tend to cook more of our own foods at home and go out less. But sometimes, we have no choice. Whether we got out of bed late, or worked through lunch, or did not get a chance to buy groceries, drive-thrus can sometimes be our only source of food.
Luckily, if you research, you can find healthy fast food. But the next time you set out to get a fast-food “health” meal… be sure to avoid the following items which are really unhealthy because they are full of terrible stuff.
1 — McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish Sandwich
Somewhere during our life, we associate “seafood” with being “healthy,” but this is a big myth. Just like other animal products, seafood can sometimes be high in fat, cholesterol, and sodium—and McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish is not an exception. With 18 grams of fat and 380 calories, this small sandwich is not healthy. It is also breaded, combined with lots of cheese, and filled with tartar sauce. Go looking for something else on McDonald’s menu if you’re getting yourself into better health.
2 — Carl’s Jr. Fried Zucchini
Speaking of sides that can fool you and are dangerous to your body, this vegetable is destroyed when it is breaded and then dipped into a deep fryer. A normal raw zucchini has around 20 calories, but this fast food version has around 330—almost half of which is from fat. Plus there is nearly 610 mg of sodium, which of course makes it tasty, but also pretty addictive.
3 — Quizno’s Veggie Guacamole Sub
Yes, guacamole and veggies are healthy. But there is a lot more happening with this food. What the name of this sandwich does not imply is that it is loaded with fat in the form of cheese and vinaigrette. A sandwich with just avocado and vegetables would be a better choice than this since it has over 800 calories, 44 grams of fat and a whopping 1600 milligrams of sodium.
