This 2-Second Snack Could Prolong Your Life, Scientists Report

Living a healthy and long life is a goal that most people strive to accomplish. And while some things are not in our control—like our genetics—can be a huge part in whether or not we will live to be a 100 years old, but other things like our food choices can also be part of it..

If we eat healthy foods every day, it will help with our goal of living a longer life, and one of the favorites is a serving of nuts each day.

Why nuts are the best food to eat every day for a longer life

Nuts are the extreme superfood—from almonds to walnuts to the pistachio that is great to snack on. Filled with right amounts of healthy fats, fiber, certain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and plant-based protein, eating nuts fuels your body with many important nutrients.

Adding certain nuts to your diet does not only add a lot to the flavor department. If you are continually eating nuts, you can look for results like lowered cholesterol levels, controlled blood sugar levels, and even weight loss (especially if you are obese or overweight).

And as an extra-appealing bonus, consuming a daily dose of some kinds of nuts may really help you live a longer life.

The studies

After a research was conducted, results suggest that if we increase our nut intake by 28 grams each day it will cause a total of a 22% decrease in the chances of early death because of anything. The results also showed a lessoned chance of an early death due to diabetes, respiratory diseases, infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease, and kidney disease.

Other information indicated that eating a handful of nuts each day resulted in a 20% drop of the chance of early death over a thirty-year period of time compared to the ones who did not eat any nuts.

How to add more nuts to your diet

Nuts are a good food to concentrate on if you are working on adding years to your life, because they are a convenient food to add to your diet. While some of the “superfoods” can be hard to add to a busy lifestyle, nuts are easily portable and can be added to many dishes like oatmeal, yogurt parfaits, and salads.
